About me

Hi, I’m Jill, The Wandering Veggie!

When I’m not out exploring, I’m cooking up a plant-based storm in my tiny house tucked into the heart of the Cascade Mountains.

For the first five years of this food blog, I lived without running water, very limited power, a hot plate, and no oven. It was a challenge to say the least, so I slowly tinkered away with new recipes whenever I had the opportunity. My goal is to make recipes that are approachable for any skill level while still delivering restaurant-quality meals. You don’t need a big, beautiful kitchen in order to make fabulous meals for you and your loved ones, whatever kitchen you’re working with is likely better than what I had for those first five years!

Why I Went Plant-Based

After neglecting my body for a couple of decades, I came to realize that, overall, I didn’t feel well. Morning people would irritate me because I was sleeping late and could barely roll out of bed with an alarm. As someone who had been extremely active my entire life, this wasn’t working for me and I knew something had to change.

Learning about nutrition completely shifted my world. It suddenly made sense why I felt awful: I was fueling my body with junk. The loss of energy happened slowly, so I didn’t notice how much it had slipped over time until I really reflected on how I used to feel and operate.

Changing what I ate changed everything. My energy came rushing back, and now in my 40s I feel better than I did in my 30s. Turns out, I’m actually a morning person… who knew?
