- 1 cup white basmati rice (for brown basmati, see notes below)
- 1 ½ cups water
- ¼ tsp salt
In a medium-sized pot add basmati rice, water, and salt. Set on high heat. Once water reaches a boil, reduce heat to low and cover with a lid. Cook for 15 minutes. Don't lift the lid to peek!
After 15 minutes, remove pot from heat and let rest for 10-15 minutes. This step is important for fluffy rice!
After rice has rested, remove lid and fluff with a wooden spoon, plastic paddle, or rubber spatula (not a fork). Serve immediately, storing extra rice in the fridge in a well-sealed container for up to 5 days.
- For 1 cup brown basmati: add rice, 2 cups water and ½ tsp salt to a medium sized pot on high heat. Bring to a boil, reduce heat to low, then cover with a lid. Simmer for 50 minutes, undisturbed, then remove pot from heat. Let rest for 10 minutes. Fluff and serve!
- Don't forget to put leftover rice in the fridge promptly! Rice (as well as beans) are prone to bacteria that causes food-borne illness after being left out at room temperature for over two hours.
